*13 Time Grammy-nominated Sitarist Anoushka Shankar Recalls Performing for the First Time with Alam Sarode and Sarathy Korwar for Grammy-nominated album Chapter III: We Return to Light Live*

13-time Grammy-nominated sitarist Anoushka Shankar has never been the one to play it safe, and recently, she unveiled a full live performance of ‘We Return to Love’ after receiving a wholesome reaction to ‘Daybreak’. In a note accompanied with the video, Anoushka recalled performing for the first time with virtuoso sarodist-composer Alam Khan – son of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and grandson of Ravi Shankar’s guru, the legendary Baba Aladdin Khan – and Sarathy Korwar, an inspiring composer, percussionist and treasured member of Anoushka’s band.
“I’m so happy to give you this FULL LIVE PERFORMANCE of ‘We Return to Love’ today. After the beautiful reaction to ‘Daybreak’ a few weeks ago, it felt right to send more of this show out into the world,” she wrote.
And added, “I said it before, but I’m saying it again – this was the first time @alamsarode, @sarathykorwar and I performed music from our Grammy-nominated album Chapter III: We Return to Light live, and also the first time Alam and I performed together ever. Playing this raga, that our fathers played together so memorably decades before, was a lifetime memory for me.”
The celebrated sitarist completes 30 years of live performance, and she celebrated the feat with the announcement of her highly anticipated ‘Chapters’ Tour in India. This milestone tour will begin in Hyderabad on 30 January, followed by Bengaluru on 31st January, Mumbai on 1st February, Pune on 6th February, Delhi on 7th February, and Kolkata on 8th February.
With this memorable tour, Anoushka not only celebrates 30 years of pushing boundaries, but also comes a full circle with the culmination of her Chapters trilogy, a body of work whose genesis began in India, and which she has been touring, to high critical acclaim, Chapter by Chapter across four continents over the last two years.
Anoushka Shankar’s Chapters trilogy – ‘Ch I: Forever, For Now,’ ‘Ch II: How Dark it Is Before Dawn,’ and ‘Ch III: We Return to Light,’ – was recorded in Berlin, California, and India, respectively, mirroring her cross-cultural roots and growth as an artist. The final Chapter, an emergence from darkness and healing into the bright light of day, was written in collaboration with virtuoso sarodist-composer Alam Khan – son of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and grandson of Ravi Shankar’s guru, the legendary Baba Aladdin Khan – and Sarathy Korwar, an inspiring composer, percussionist and treasured member of Anoushka’s band.
The promising Chapters Tour in India promises to be an engaging and soul-stirring exploration of hope and a visionary artist’s bold vision for a shining new future.
