Akshay Kumar Backs Indian Martial Arts Students, Covers Training in Thailand
Staying true to his values of seva, Akshay Kumar does it again! The actor has been sponsoring Indian martial arts students, funding their training in Thailand and covering their expenses end-to-end, according to a heartwarming revelation that came during a recent episode of Wheel of Fortune.
The disclosure was made by contestant Vispy, who said he has been part of training programs supported by the actor for years. According to him, Kumar identifies promising students and sends them to Thailand at his own expense, including training costs, travel, stay, and even exposure to international competitions.
“Sir khud ke paise se students ko Thailand bhejte hain,” Vispy said on the show, describing the support as consistent and hands-on rather than one-off assistance.
Kumar, who has a long association with martial arts as he began his journey with it, has largely kept this initiative out of the public eye. Those familiar with his early years know he trained in Thailand himself before entering films, working and learning the discipline that later shaped both his screen image and personal routine.
The actor has often spoken about the role of martial arts in building self-discipline and focus at multiple platforms over the year but has rarely highlighted his financial backing of students. His work, however, has mostly spread through informal channels, appearing here and there thanks to those who have directly experienced its impact.
The program has also shone a light on less common martial arts, such as Kudo, within the Indian community. Students now have the opportunity to participate in well-organized, advanced training programs overseas.
Kumar’s approach, in a field where charity often serves as a marketing tool, is notable for its understated nature and lasting effects. However, the difference is quite apparent for the students he supports.
