Prabhas Reveals How Being ‘Baahubali’s Friend’ Got Puri Jagannadh Special Treatment at a Bangkok Hospital
Prabhas’ Baahubali: The Beginning wasn’t just a blockbuster it became a global phenomenon that redefined Indian cinema and cemented the his position as the undisputed Pan-India superstar. Directed by S. S. Rajamouli, the film’s reach extended far beyond India, captivating audiences across the globe. One person who witnessed its global impact firsthand was acclaimed filmmaker Puri Jagannadh. Recalling the incident in Baahubali: The Torchbearer, Prabhas shared how simply being known as “Baahubali’s friend” earned Puri special treatment at a hospital in Bangkok.
Sharing the same, Prabhas said, “Baahubali 1 turned out to be a blockbuster. Six months into the shoot of part two at Ramoji Film City, Puri Jagannadh called me from Bangkok. He had a small infection and was waiting at a hospital when a nurse asked him if he was from India. When he said yes, she immediately asked, ‘Baahubali?'”
The actor continued, “Puri was shocked and asked if she had seen the film. She said everyone had watched it and even the doctor loved it. He showed her a photograph of us together and told her he was my friend. She immediately took the picture to the doctor and said, ‘He’s Baahubali’s friend!’ They skipped his waiting time and treated him immediately.”
The superstar further revealed that after the incident, Puri immediately sent him a voice message recounting everything that had happened at the hospital. At the time, Prabhas was with director S. S. Rajamouli and producer Rama Rajamouli. After hearing Puri narrate the experience, the team was left amazed by how far Baahubali’s popularity had reached.
Prabhas recalled, “He sent me a voice message. Rajamouli and Rama were also on set. We knew about the impact in Japan, but this was the first time I heard it reached Bangkok. Just being Baahubali’s friend got him special treatment. That was a masterstroke. I remember from the shoot.”
A decade later, the legacy of Baahubali remains unmatched. The film continues to stand as a landmark in Indian cinema, while Prabhas remains its biggest ambassador, with his stardom only growing stronger over the years.
