Kushal Tandon on Mental Health: “We Need to Talk About What We’re Going Through”

Having been part of two reality shows, Kushal Tandon understands how emotionally demanding it can be to live in an environment where you are constantly watched and judged. His experiences have shaped his views on mental health and the importance of acknowledging difficult emotions rather than keeping them bottled up.

“Everyone goes through their own ups and downs. If something is bothering you, you should be able to talk about it and share it with someone instead of keeping everything inside. Sometimes, staying silent and carrying everything on your own can make things much harder,” Kushal believes.

He also emphasises the need to approach depression with understanding rather than stigma. According to him, people should feel comfortable acknowledging when they are struggling, seeking help and allowing others to support them instead of pretending that everything is fine.

For Kushal, emotional struggles are not limited to a particular profession or section of society. Everyone has their own challenges, whether personal, financial or emotional, and it is difficult to understand what someone may be going through simply by looking at their life from the outside.

He also challenges the assumption that success automatically brings happiness. Being successful or appearing to have everything figured out does not mean a person is free from emotional struggles. Everyone has their own battles, regardless of how their life may look to others.

Kushal believes that being more compassionate starts with giving people the space to express themselves without fear of judgement. Sometimes, having someone who is willing to listen can make a meaningful difference.

At the heart of his message is a simple belief: mental health deserves open conversations, empathy and support. Speaking about what one is going through should never be seen as a weakness, but as an important step towards feeling understood and finding help.
