Resort to Heart Beat: How JioHotstar’s Long Running Series Are Winning Audiences Across Languages

A compelling story can travel well beyond the language in which it begins. When characters have the space to develop and their journeys unfold over time, audiences can find an emotional connection with them regardless of where the story comes from. This is the idea behind JioHotstar’s Long Running Shows, which build sustained viewing through multiple weekly episode drops, evolving storylines and characters that audiences have the time to grow with.

Unlike a limited series designed to be consumed within a few sittings, this format gives stories room to breathe. Family dynamics can shift, new characters can enter the picture, and conflicts can unfold over a much longer arc. In doing so, these shows create more than a viewing occasion; they give audiences a reason to keep returning while allowing stories to find viewers across different language markets.

Resort is a strong example of this cross-language appeal. The show has crossed 100 million watch hours, becoming JioHotstar’s first fiction original to achieve the milestone. More significantly, its audience has extended well beyond Tamil, with 47% of its total watch time coming from outside the language. Hindi viewers account for 22% of the total watch time, Telugu viewers contribute 15%, while Malayalam and Kannada audiences together contribute another 10%.

That same cross-language discovery is now playing out with Heart Beat Season 3, which is finding fresh interest among Hindi viewers while continuing the journey of an established Tamil franchise. Set against the backdrop of RK Multispeciality Hospital, Heart Beat brings together medical drama, family dynamics and personal choices, creating a story where the pressures of professional life are closely intertwined with the emotions playing out between its characters.

Across its first two seasons, the show established Reena, Rathi, Vijay and Arjun at the heart of its story. Season 1 introduced Reena’s journey, her complicated relationship with Rathi and the beginnings of her relationship with Arjun, while Season 2 deepened the family dynamics and brought Vijay further into the emotional centre of the story. The time spent with these characters has allowed their histories, choices and conflicts to build across the series.

Season 3 continues that journey with a new phase for RK Hospital, new characters and new conflicts. The continuing emotional threads give returning viewers a sense of familiarity, while offering those discovering the show now an entry point into a world that has already built a rich history.

For Hindi audiences discovering Heart Beat, that history also offers an opportunity to go back to Season 1, understand the characters and their journeys, and then follow the story as it unfolds in Season 3. In this way, an established story finds a new audience without losing the emotional connections that have kept existing viewers invested.

Deepa Balu, who plays Reena In Heart Beats, said, “Reena’s journey has never been straightforward, and that is what makes her so interesting to play. She has had to make difficult choices while trying to find her place in both her personal and professional life. Season 3 takes her into another phase, and I am excited for audiences to see where that takes her.”

Anumol, who plays Rathi, said, “Rathi is a mother who feels deeply, even when she does not always know how to express it. There is a lot of emotion beneath the choices she makes, and I think that is something audiences can recognise. Season 3 brings out new shades of her character, which has been wonderful to explore.”

Karthik Kumar, who plays Vijay, added, “Vijay has a very different place in the story this season. There are questions from the past that continue to shape the family, and he finds himself having to deal with their consequences. I think that adds an interesting layer to what we see unfold in Season 3.”

Charukesh M, who plays Arjun, said, “Arjun and Reena’s journey has had its share of uncertainty, and Season 3 continues to test what they mean to each other. For viewers coming to Heart Beat for the first time, there is a lot to discover in the earlier seasons before stepping into everything that is happening now.”
