Kumar and Ramesh Taurani Address Legal Battles and Past Alliances on Komal Nahta’s Game Changers: The Music Series
Komal Nahta, one of India’s most respected trade analysts, is back with a fresh season of his podcast Game Changers: The Music Series. This edition shines a spotlight on celebrated singers, composers, and music maestros as they share their creative journeys, inspirations, and the untold stories behind the music that has shaped generations. The latest episode featured Kumar and Ramesh Taurani.
As veteran producers and the visionary founders of Tips Industries, Kumar and Ramesh Taurani have played an important role in shaping the landscape of Indian film music and cinema for over three decades. In a candid conversation on the show, the duo talked about past industry relationships and recent legal disputes. Speaking about the legal challenges they faced, Kumar Taurani shared, “When the case was filed against us, all our contracts stated that Mumbai would be the jurisdiction. Whatever case you file, you file it in Bombay. These rights are 10–25 years old, and they didn’t think to question them for all these years. They filed a case in Bihar, 200–300 km away from Patna. Why would you go there? By God’s grace, the High Court and the Supreme Court gave us relief, and everyone pushed him to fight the case in Bombay.” He further added, “Everyone knows we have such a long-standing relationship with Vashu. We brought him into the music business through his plastic materials business. We made our first film together. We have maintained our distance now, but it’s fine. If you have a grudge against us, you could have come and spoken to us.”
