From Atlee and Priyadarshan to Hollywood Director Tarsem Singh, Komal Shahani’s Styling Journey Is Built on Creative Trust
Costume and styling can shape how an audience sees a character long before a single line is delivered. For stylist Komal Shahani, that creative process has taken her from working with leading names in Hindi and South Indian cinema to collaborating with acclaimed Hollywood director Tarsem Singh, known for his distinctive visual language and ambitious storytelling. Her career has been shaped by an ability to understand the actor, the character and the filmmaker’s vision, an approach that has led to long-standing collaborations across industries.
Having styled some of the biggest names across Hindi and South Indian cinema, Shahani has built long-standing creative relationships rooted in trust, consistency and a strong understanding of visual storytelling. Her styling credits include five films with filmmaker Atlee and five films with acclaimed director Priyadarshan, repeat collaborations that reflect the creative confidence they have placed in her styling. Rather than being one-off associations, these projects have developed into long-term professional relationships, with filmmakers returning to Shahani to shape the visual identity and styling of their films.
Talking about the same, she says “ For me, the biggest validation is when a director or an actor chooses to work with me again. I have had the privilege of collaborating with Atlee and Priyadarshan across five films each, and I have also had long-standing associations with Akshay Kumar and Thalapathy Vijay. Every project teaches you something new, but when people return to you, it tells you that there is a genuine trust in your creative process. Working with Hollywood director Tarsem Singh has been another incredibly exciting experience because of his unique visual language and the scale of his storytelling. I have always believed that the best creative relationships are built over time, and I feel fortunate to have built those relationships across Hindi, South Indian and now international cinema.”
It is this continued trust across Hindi, South Indian and now international cinema that has shaped Komal Shahani’s growing reputation as a stylist whose work goes beyond fashion, becoming an integral part of how stories, characters and stars are presented to audiences.
Komal Shahani has worked across Hindi and South Indian cinema with leading names including Atlee, Priyadarshan, Ashish R. Mohan, Akshay Kumar and Thalapathy Vijay. Her credits include five films each with Atlee and Priyadarshan, multiple collaborations with Ashish R Mohan including Khiladi 786, Welcome to Karachi and Daadi Ki Shaadi, and her latest international collaboration with Hollywood filmmaker Tarsem Singh.
