Did You Know Taapsee Pannu Trained in Multiple Skills for Her Most Challenging Roles?
Known for choosing unconventional scripts and performance-driven characters, Taapsee Pannu has consistently gone the extra mile to make every role believable. Whether it’s mastering a sport, learning combat techniques, or undergoing physically demanding transformations, the actress has repeatedly proved that preparation is at the heart of her performances. As audiences gear up for her upcoming revenge thriller Gandhari, here’s a look at the incredible skills Taapsee has learnt over the years for her films.
1. Rashmi Rocket – Taapsee transformed herself into a professional sprinter. She underwent rigorous athletic conditioning under coach Melwyn Crasto, training in hopping, skipping, high-intensity running drills, and sprint mechanics to perfect the posture, speed, and body language of a national-level athlete.
2. Shabaash Mithu – She portrayed legendary Indian cricketer Mithali Raj, where she dedicated several months to intensive cricket training. Working closely with coach Nooshin Al Khadeer and other experts, she learnt batting techniques, fielding movements, and the finer nuances of professional cricket to authentically portray the sporting icon.
3. Baby (2015), Taapsee trained in Kūdō and Krav Maga to convincingly play undercover agent Shabana Khan. Despite her limited screen time, her performance and action sequences became one of the film’s biggest highlights.
4. Naam Shabana – Taapsee embraced a completely different challenge. Determined to perform her own action sequences without a body double, she completed a three-month intensive training programme in Krav Maga, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), and Aikido under renowned Hollywood stunt coordinator Cyril Raffaelli.
5. Saand Ki Aankh (2019), Taapsee stepped into the shoes of champion sharpshooter Chandro Tomar. She spent hours at shooting ranges learning air pistol and rifle shooting, mastering precision, control, and discipline to bring the celebrated shooter to life.
Now, Taapsee is preparing to push her limits yet again with Gandhari. In the upcoming intense revenge thriller, she performs never-seen-before action sequences while completely blindfolded. The film follows a fearless mother determined to rescue her kidnapped child, relying solely on instinct, resilience, and courage instead of sight.
From athletics and cricket to martial arts, shooting, and now blindfolded action, Taapsee Pannu continues to prove that no challenge is too big when it comes to bringing authenticity to the screen. Every role adds a new skill to her repertoire, making her one of the most dedicated performers of her generation.
