The Vvaan Holds Strong Against the Drishyam Wave, Records a Healthy Start to Week 2
The Vvaan appears to have found its audience at the box office, with the Sidharth Malhotra-Tamannaah Bhatia starrer holding on as it enters its second week despite the arrival of Drishyam: The Conclusion, one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
The folklore fantasy had a steady first week, with trade trackers reporting a 49 crore total for Week 1, including reported and unreported collections. The film was particularly strong in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh, regions that have emerged as important markets for the spectacular, rooted folklore-driven story.
The bigger test, however, came with the arrival of Drishyam The Conclusion on October 2. The Ajay Devgn-led franchise opened to a bumper response, with Film Information describing its opening as phenomenal. Yet The Vvaan has continued to find footfalls in its second week, suggesting that the film has managed to carve out an audience of its own rather than being entirely swept aside by the new release.
The film’s performance is interesting because The Vvaan is not riding on an established franchise. Its appeal has been built around an original folklore fantasy, the fresh Sidharth-Tamannaah pairing and a world that brings together supernatural mystery, faith, romance, action and adventure. The film opened to a 31.75 crore first weekend according to Film Information, with collections showing strength in markets including Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The second-week performance also comes at a time when audience attention is naturally being pulled towards Drishyam 3. The new release’s opening has been described as extraordinary, making The Vvaan’s ability to retain an audience particularly noteworthy.
For the makers, the focus now is on the film’s audience base and word-of-mouth of viewers who have connected with its folklore-led premise and are continuing to choose it despite the arrival of a major franchise. The film’s Week 1 run has given it a robust foundation, while its performance in Week 2 will determine how strongly it can sustain that momentum.
With The Vvaan now settling into its second week, the box office story is no longer simply about its opening. It is about whether an original film with no pre-existing franchise can hold its ground when a hugely anticipated sequel walks into the same theatres and the early signs suggest that Vvaan has found viewers willing to stay with it.
