Dulquer Salmaan on Lokah – Chapter 1: Chandra’s Global Milestone: “Sincere Stories Can Transcend Borders” as Film Heads to BIFAN and Stuttgart Film Festival 2026
After creating history at the box office, Lokah – Chapter 1: Chandra has achieved another major milestone. The ₹300-crore Malayalam superhero blockbuster, produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films, has been officially selected for the prestigious Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) 2026 and the 23rd Indian Film Festival Stuttgart 2026.
Announcing the news on social media, Wayfarer Films wrote, “We are thrilled to announce that our film has been selected for BIFAN (Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival) 2026 and the 23rd Indian Film Festival Stuttgart 2026.”
Expressing his happiness over the film’s latest achievement, producer Dulquer Salmaan said, “Seeing Lokah: Chapter One – Chandra being recognised at prestigious international film festivals is incredibly special. I’m immensely proud of the entire team whose passion brought this vision to life. It’s truly gratifying to see the film continue its journey beyond theatres and for Malayalam storytelling to receive global recognition. These selections reaffirm our belief that sincere stories can transcend borders and connect with audiences across cultures.”
Directed by Dominic Arun, Lokah – Chapter 1: Chandra created history as Malayalam cinema’s first female superhero film. Starring Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead, the film emerged as a massive commercial and critical success, grossing over ₹300 crore worldwide and becoming one of the biggest Malayalam blockbusters of the year.
Produced by Wayfarer Films, Lokah – Chapter 1: Chandra is part of an ambitious superhero franchise. The film was written and directed by Dominic Arun, with cinematography by Nimish Ravi, editing by Chaman Chakko, music composed by Jakes Bejoy, action choreography by internationally acclaimed stunt director Yannick Ben, additional screenplay and dramaturgy by Santhy Balachandran, and production design by Jithu Sebastian.
The selections at BIFAN 2026 and the 23rd Indian Film Festival Stuttgart 2026 mark another significant milestone for the film, further strengthening its global journey after its phenomenal theatrical success and reinforcing the growing international recognition of Malayalam cinema.
