Bhumi Satish Pednekkar Says OTT has Changed the Game for Actresses, Asserts Women Take Bigger Risks with Scripts
Hindi cinema has witnessed a noteworthy shift, with female roles getting more exposure and the platform to experiment and soar past predictability. Bhumi Satish Pednekkar, who has frequently made bold on-screen choices, believes that OTT platforms have reshaped the space for women in the industry. During the International Film Festival Delhi 2026, Bhumi shared how OTT platforms helped create stronger, meaningful roles for females that are more than supporting. They are leading from the front.
When it comes to choosing scripts, Bhumi believes that women have always been brave, but now they have the platform to support that courage. “I feel with OTT, especially for women, the narrative has become a lot stronger, because a lot of those shows, a lot of those films are led by women. Women have always been a lot more courageous and brave while choosing their scripts. OTT just gives them the right platform.”
The actress has completed a decade in the industry, and coming this far, she has a message for aspiring actresses. Bhumi pointed out that while the industry may seem intimidating, it is not as scary as it seems. “Even now in India, we think the world of films is very dangerous, but it’s not. Many women have become very capable in this world. If you have a dream, there will be many people who tell you ‘no,’ but you have to listen to that ‘yes.’ Always stay safe and know which people are right and which are wrong. Experience will teach you that.”
Bhumi also shared a path to deal with criticism. Instead of reacting to them, she channels everything into her work “Actions speak louder than words. For women, that is our most powerful tool,” she shared, adding that every time she feels undermined, it pushes her even more.
From Dum Laga Ke Haisha to her latest global hit, Daldal, Bhumi Satish Pednekkar’s filmography reflects her evolution as a performer and the daring to push boundaries, ignite nationwide conversations and simply bring an impactful shift in the perspective of cinema. Going by her approach and strong mindset, it’d be safe to say that women-led stories have become today’s norms – and audiences are eager to see what’s more in the store!
