At a time when the global film business is being reshaped by streaming platforms and shifting audience habits, Jyoti Deshpande has emerged as one of Indian cinema’s most decisive business minds. As President of Jio Studios, she has quietly built a model that doesn’t pit theatres against digital platforms, but instead strengthens the entire filmed entertainment ecosystem. Her leadership has been marked by clarity of vision, sharp risk assessment, and an instinctive understanding of what today’s Indian audience seeks scale, conviction and storytelling with purpose. This approach paid rich dividends in 2024, a year that firmly positioned Jio Studios as the biggest film studio in India by both impact and output.

That philosophy found its most formidable expression in Dhurandhar, Jio Studios’ mega collaboration with Aditya Dhar and Lokesh Dhar’s B62 Studios. Backing the film as a two-part cinematic event was a strategic call rooted in global franchise thinking, one that balanced creative ambition with commercial intelligence. By spreading investment risk while extending audience engagement beyond a single release window, Jyoti Deshpande ensured Dhurandhar functioned not just as a film, but as a long-term property. The result: massive anticipation, sustained footfalls, and a cultural moment that has translated seamlessly into box-office dominance.

Equally significant was Jio Studios’ debut foray into film distribution with Dhurandhar a bold move that underscored her willingness to take ownership of the entire value chain. By eliminating third-party dependencies, the studio executed one of its most expansive and coordinated nationwide releases to date. A masterstroke in this journey was the decision to bring on board PVR veteran Deepak Sharma to lead the distribution and profit centre for Jio Studios, strengthening operational muscle and theatrical intelligence. The decision paid off emphatically. In its second week, Dhurandhar is racing towards the ₹450 crore mark, cementing its status as a bona fide blockbuster and making it a defining pillar of Jio Studios’ theatrical supremacy, one that places the studio firmly on track to be the No. 1 studio of 2025 as well.

Beyond tentpole spectacles, Jyoti Deshpande’s slate reflects rare range and consistency mainstream entertainers, intense dramas and rooted stories, all calibrated across budgets and platforms. 2024 alone saw Jio Studios deliver major successes such as Stree 2, Article 370, Shaitaan and Laapataa Ladies each vastly different in tone and scale, yet united by strong audience connect. Laapataa Ladies in particular emerged as a cultural and critical phenomenon: it received unanimous acclaim from critics and opinion-makers globally, was recognized as the Most Loved Film of 2024, selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars, and went on to become the darling of the awards season, sweeping honours across categories at every major outing. This breadth of wins underscores Deshpande’s ability to balance mass appeal with global storytelling credibility.

That momentum has carried strongly into the digital space as well. In 2025, Jio Studios has dominated the OTT landscape with 11+ releases, reflecting the same diversity and ambition that defines its theatrical slate. The studio’s digital lineup spans genres and sensibilities, with standout titles including Mrs. (ZEE5), Dhoom Dhaam (Netflix), Bhagwat (ZEE5), Saali Mohobbat (ZEE5) and Baramulla (Netflix). Together, they reinforce Jio Studios’ position as a rare powerhouse that commands theatres, awards circuits and streaming platforms with equal authority.

Dhurandhar is a high-octane action-thriller written, directed, and produced by Aditya Dhar, and produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar. It features a stellar cast including Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun. Presented by Jio Studios, a B62 Studios production, the film opened to massive numbers at the box office and is witnessing a successful theatrical run. With Dhurandhar Part 2 slated for a 2026 release, an even bigger box-office monster is widely anticipated making a blockbuster hat-trick for Jio Studios not just possible, but very much on the cards.
