Komal Nahta, one of India’s most respected trade analysts, is back with a fresh season of his podcast Game Changers: The Music Series. This edition shines a spotlight on celebrated singers, composers, and music maestros as they share their creative journeys, inspirations, and the untold stories behind the music that has shaped generations. The latest episode featured Kumar and Ramesh Taurani.

As veterans and co-founders of Tips Industries, Kumar and Ramesh Taurani have played an important role in shaping India’s music and film landscape over the decades. Speaking on the appeal and commercial value of breathing new life into timeless tracks, Kumar Taurani shares, “I am in big favour of recreating music. I feel it should be there in every film. The songs have a big legacy attached to them, and people remember them. When a song is suddenly presented in a new avatar, it works well with people. Chunari Chunari, Chamma Chamma and Ankhon Se Tune Yeh Kya Kar Diya are some great examples. We used to get 20,000 monthly streams, but suddenly, the original songs have peaked at millions.

Ramesh Taurani further continues, “In the film Crew, the original song Naina and Choli Ke Peeche, these two songs were hits. The whole background was filled with ‘Ku Ku Ku Ku’!” Kumar further adds, “Shobha Kapoor herself came to me and said, ‘Kumar Ji, because of Choli Ke Peeche, I have an extra ₹25 crore in my pocket from the distribution share.’ Its a huge legacy”
