20 Years of Omkara! Abhishek Pathak Celebrates One of the Finest Creations to Come Out of Indian Cinema
‘Omkara’, produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak, marked the first production under Panorama Studios. As the film clocks a glorious 20 years today, son & Managing Partner, Abhishek Pathak, is celebrating the significant feat. Pathak took to his social media handle to look back at a film that continues to enjoy a significant recall value, purely for its formidable star cast and a riveting plotline that keeps you on the edge of your seats.
He recalled the power of a story that Omkara embodies, a narrative that still hits hard, where loyalty is tested and where every emotion feels real. Omkara is written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and is decorated with more than forty awards, including Best Villain, Best Cinematography, Best Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay and a lot more. In addition to sweeping honours, the film made some serious waves across the Cairo International Film Festival, the Asian Festival of First Films, the International Indian Film Academy Awards, the Kara Film Festival and several others. The film also went on to win a National Film Award in multiple categories.
“A world of power, pride, and betrayal that remains as compelling as ever 💪 20 Years Of Omkara,” Abhishek Pathak wrote while celebrating the milestone.
The year was 2006 when Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Konkana Sen Sharma, Vivek Oberoi, Bipasha Basu, and Naseeruddin Shah teamed up for the first time on the Vishal Bhardwaj directorial. The film took Shakespeare’s Othello and dropped it right into the dusty lands of Uttar Pradesh. And somehow, it soared past expectations.
Even two decades later, Omkara is considered to be one of the finest films to come out of Indian cinema, with its dialogues, songs and characters continuing to have a life of their own!
