Rishab Shetty’s wife Pragathi Shetty’s Costume Design for Kantara: Chapter 1 Gets Recognition with Best Costume Designer Win

While Kantara: Chapter 1 has been celebrated for its performances and storytelling, the film’s visual world was equally dependent on the meticulous work happening behind the camera. Costume designer Pragathi Shetty’s contribution to that world has now received recognition with her win for Best Costume Designer at the Chittara Star Awards 2026.

For Pragathi, the costumes were never simply about appearance. They were an important part of building the world of Kantara: Chapter 1, with each character requiring a distinct visual identity shaped by the period, culture and circumstances of the story.

Her work involved extensive research and attention to detail, particularly when it came to the film’s tribal attire, ceremonial looks and armour. Pragathi has spoken about working on intricate metal tribal costumes and leather armour, with every element needing to look authentic while also functioning practically during the film’s extensive outdoor shoots.

Having been involved with the project from its earliest stages, Pragathi worked closely with Rishab Shetty to translate his vision into a visual language through costumes. She has described the process as one where every department from cinematography and art to costumes had to work together to create one cohesive world.

The Best Costume Designer recognition is therefore a significant acknowledgment of one of the film’s key creative departments and Pragathi’s role in giving Kantara: Chapter 1 its distinctive visual identity.
