Mumbai, October 24, 2026: For South Korean singer AOORA, performing the national anthems of India and Korea on the same stage brought together two deeply personal connections—the country of his birth and the country he now calls home.

AOORA performed both anthems, each in its respective language, at the Republic of Korea’s National Day Reception on October 23. Hosted by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Mumbai, the reception took place at the Ballroom of the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, with diplomats, industrialists and investors among those in attendance.

The occasion gave the singer an opportunity to express his pride in his Korean heritage alongside his affection and respect for India. For an artist whose work increasingly explores the connection between the two cultures, the performance carried a significance that extended beyond the stage.

Reflecting on the experience, AOORA said, “The Korean anthem brings me back to my childhood, my family and my roots. Singing the Indian anthem makes me think of the love and acceptance I have received here. The two have different languages, melodies and expressions, but both carry a deep love for one’s country. I wanted to honour the individual spirit of each.”

He added, “While singing, I felt a responsibility to give every word the respect it deserved. Afterwards, I felt pride and gratitude. Two very important parts of my life had come together on one stage, and that is a moment I will carry with me.”

The gathering also offered a setting in which music, diplomacy and business came together. Speaking about the audience, AOORA said, “Being among people who build relationships between countries through diplomacy, industry and investment made the occasion especially meaningful. I felt fortunate to contribute in my own way, through music.”

The reception formed part of 2026 KOREA WEEK @ MUMBAI, organised by the Consulate in collaboration with Korean organisations in the city. AOORA’s participation added a personal expression of cultural connection to the celebrations, honouring the two countries that continue to shape his life and artistic journey.
