The recently released Netflix film ‘Gandhari’ has been a testament to the power of the audience’s word of mouth. In its second week, the film saw an unprecedented spike in viewership, taking it from 5.9 Million views and 11.5 Million watch hours in week 1 – to now a whopping 9.6 Million views and 18.7 Million watch hours in week 2.

According to official global data published on the Netflix website, this number is deemed to be the highest single-week viewership for an Indian Netflix Original film, shattering pathbreaking standards for both Indian audiences and creators. Now rising to a Global No. 1 on the Netflix Non-English Movies Charts, the film is trending on No. 1 in 17 countries, and is in the top 10 in 58 countries across the world.

The achievement also marks Kanika Dhillon’s 4th back-to-back blockbuster with Netflix and cements Gandhari as Taapsee Pannu and Kanika Dhillon’s 3rd Netflix blockbuster together, after their successful collaborations on Haseen Dillruba and Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba.

Actor Taapsee Pannu reacted to the record-breaking figures, “It feels surreal to see a film with such unprecedented love, numbers and growth globally. Every actor dreams for big opening numbers and then when the audience takes the film to higher level the feeling is validated that you made a connect. I’ve been lucky to experience both these feelings with this film. This surely sealed a big hattrick for Kanika and me and we can’t wait to bring something bigger and better to the audience soon.”

Writer and producer Kanika Dhillon shared her gratitude for the achievement, “A big thank you to the audience- for giving me my fourth OTT blockbuster, back to back, after the Haseen franchise and Do Patti! The most important thing that I’m happy about is that in its second week, Gandhari has humungous viewership numbers- which means the audience has loved the story and has given it a huge thumbs up; making it the biggest Netflix Indian Original blockbusters of 2026 so far, and also breaking records of being the highest performing Indian Netflix Original film in a single week, as per the official Netflix Tudum data published. As a writer and producer I am thrilled and want to thank my partners Netflix and Monica Shergill for backing local, rooted, audience-forward Indian stories that can travel globally!”

Produced by Kathha Pictures and directed by Devashish Makhija, Gandhari centers on a mother’s relentless quest as she fights against all odds to rescue her kidnapped child. The film is currently streaming globally on Netflix.
