Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana Failed to beat Ranveer Singh’s Historic Opening Day Record of Dhurandhar 2
Ranveer Singh continues to hold the throne when it comes to delivering monumental box-office openings. Despite massive expectations, extensive global promotions and being mounted on a reported budget of Rs 4,000 crore, Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana has failed to surpass the monstrous opening day registered by Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge earlier this year.
Opened to mixed reactions, Ramayana managed to earn Rs 65 crore (net) in India, significantly lower than the expected Rs 100 crore opening predicted by trade experts. The biggest contribution came from the Hindi language, which added Rs 47.50 crore to the total. The worldwide gross collection stands at Rs 127.50 crore.
The gross India collection stands at Rs 77.50 crore, while the net collection stands at Rs 64.85 crore. Overseas, the film has grossed a total of ₹50.00 crore, taking its worldwide gross collection to ₹127.50 crore.
While Ramayana was touted as one of the most ambitious projects Indian cinema has ever witnessed and promoted extensively across the globe, it could not match the historic opening numbers of Dhurandhar: The Revenge.
Ranveer Singh’s blockbuster registered a staggering ₹102.55 crore in total India net collections, with an India gross of ₹123.00 crore (or ₹174.60 crore combined, including Day 0 previews/collections). The film also recorded an overseas gross of ₹52.00 crore, taking its worldwide gross to a massive ₹226.60 crore. Its Hindi version alone contributed ₹99.10 crore in net collections.
The comparison highlights the sheer scale of Ranveer Singh’s box-office dominance. While Ramayana arrived with enormous expectations and a massive global campaign, Dhurandhar 2 delivered an opening-day benchmark that remains unmatched. Ranveer Singh continues to lead the box-office race, with his monstrous blockbuster setting a new standard for opening-day collections in Indian cinema.
