“AS A FATHER, I COOKED FOR HER”: CHEF VENKATESH BHAT’S HEARTWARMING GESTURE FOR SAMANTHA RUTH PRABHU ON CELEBRITY MASTERCHEF TAMIL
Samantha calls Chef Venkatesh Bhat’s special thayir vadai “Prasadam” as the Diwali episode serves up a heartwarming moment
Amid the competition, festive flavours and fun of the Celebrity MasterChef Tamil kitchen, it was a simple plate of thayir vadai that created one of the most heartwarming moments of the Diwali special.
Produced by Endemol Shine India, Celebrity MasterChef Tamil brings together culinary challenges, celebrity personalities and moments that go beyond the competition. In the upcoming episode, the kitchen celebrates Diwali with a special Palagaram challenge, where contestants are tasked with preparing a festive gift box comprising four dishes in 90 minutes, including sweet and savoury preparations and at least one sweet without refined sugar.
As the festive challenge brings conversations around favourite foods and memories to the fore, Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s love for thayir vadai once again becomes a talking point in the kitchen. Chef Venkatesh Bhat decides to turn her much-awaited favourite into a special surprise.
In a change from his usual role at the judging table, Chef Bhat dons his chef’s coat and steps behind the counter to cook alongside the contestants. He prepares Samantha’s much-awaited Durga Hotel-style thayir vadai along with sweet pongal, even touching the stove and offering a small prayer before beginning to cook.
When the dish finally arrives at the tasting table, Samantha’s reaction says it all. Calling the thayir vadai “melting in your mouth,” she remarks that the dish has “stood the test of time.” But it is Chef Bhat’s words that make the moment even more special. He shares that he cooked for Samantha “as a father”, affectionately calling her a “little princess” and expressing that what he had prepared carried a lot of love beyond just a plate of thayir vadai.
Touched by the gesture and the flavours, Samantha calls the food “Prasadam” and even asks for some to take home. Chef Bhat sums up the emotion behind the moment, sharing that for a chef, there is nothing more heartening than watching someone enjoy the food they have prepared.
The warm exchange adds an emotional flavour to the Diwali celebrations, showing how food can carry memories, affection and relationships — sometimes saying far more than words can.
