Richa Chadha says her Academic Roots and Love for History Inspired her to produce her next, a Non-Fiction Series Celebrating India’s Heritage and Untold Stories

Actor-producer Richa Chadha is set to bring a fresh perspective to Indian non-fiction storytelling with Musafiri, an upcoming series under her banner, Pushing Buttons Studios. Inspired by her academic background in History and her long-standing interest in India’s culture and heritage, the series aims to explore the country’s diverse historical landscapes through compelling narratives and striking visuals.

Richa has always been deeply interested in understanding the many layers of India’s past. Her education in History, combined with years of reading and travelling, has played an important role in shaping the vision of Musafiri. Rather than presenting history as a collection of dates and events, the series seeks to uncover the human stories, traditions, forgotten narratives, and cultural legacies that continue to define India.

Musafiri will take audiences across historically significant locations, bringing together immersive storytelling, local voices, and cinematic visuals to offer a fresh way of experiencing India’s rich heritage. The series promises to celebrate the country’s diversity while encouraging viewers to reconnect with places and stories that often remain unexplored.

Speaking about what inspired the project, Richa Chadha said, “History was one of my favourite subjects growing up because it always felt like a way of understanding people, societies, and how we arrived at where we are today. Over the years, that curiosity only grew stronger through travel, conversations, and reading. Musafiri comes from that personal interest. I wanted to create something that doesn’t just showcase beautiful monuments or landscapes, but also the stories, memories, and communities that give these places meaning. India has an incredible cultural wealth, and there are so many narratives that deserve to be discovered beyond textbooks. I hope the series encourages people to look at our heritage with fresh eyes and inspires them to explore the country with greater curiosity and appreciation. If audiences finish an episode wanting to know more about a place or its history, I think we would have achieved what we set out to do.”
