Choreographing Chaos: Maniesh Paul Reflects on the Madness Behind Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’s Comic Confusion Sequences
With Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai now entertaining audiences in theatres, one of the film’s most talked-about highlights has been its signature David Dhawan-style comedy of errors. Packed with mistaken identities, frantic chases, overlapping lies, and perfectly timed misunderstandings, the film has successfully brought back the vintage Bollywood comedy flavor that fans have been craving.
As audiences continue to laugh their way through the film’s elaborate confusion sequences, actor Maniesh Paul has opened up about the sheer effort and precision required to bring these moments to life on screen.
While the chaos appears effortless and spontaneous in the final cut, Maniesh revealed that every movement, cue, and reaction was carefully planned and rehearsed to perfection.
Reflecting on the mental and physical challenge of filming these sequences, Maniesh Paul shared:
“People watch a comic confusion scene and think we’re just having a blast and making things up as we go, but let me tell you, it is absolute madness on set! David ji’s comedy of errors operates like clockwork. If one actor opens a door a second too late, or if I miss my cue to hide under a table by a fraction of a heartbeat, the entire sequence collapses like a house of cards. It takes immense concentration, endless energy, and a ton of rehearsal. By the time David ji would finally say ‘Cut, okay!’, the entire cast would just collapse on the nearest sofa, completely drained but laughing our heads off.”
Now playing in theatres, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has been winning over family audiences with its blend of comedy, music, glamour, and classic situational humor. The film’s energetic performances, picturesque international locations, and foot-tapping soundtrack have further added to its mass appeal.
Maniesh Paul’s quick wit and comic timing have emerged as one of the film’s standout elements, helping elevate David Dhawan’s grand tapestry of confusion and laughter.
In addition to Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, Maniesh will next be seen in Vvan: Force of the Forest, Rafoo, and an untitled project directed by Vikram Phadnis.
